About Me
Hi, I'm Hillary Geffner, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing online therapy for adults, couples, and families in New York and New Jersey. I'm passionate about helping people navigate relationship challenges, life transitions, and the patterns that keep them stuck so they can build more connected, fulfilling lives.
I believe therapy works best when it is a collaborative effort with active engagement. You deserve a space where you feel supported, understood, and encouraged to explore both the struggles you face and the strengths you carry. My approach is warm, hands-on, and rooted in the belief that meaningful change happens when we understand ourselves and our relationships more deeply.
What Guides My Work
My work is grounded in a relational and systemic perspective. I believe we are profoundly shaped by all of our relationships (with partners, family, friends, colleagues), the families we come from, our cultural identities, and the broader world we navigate. By exploring these connections, we can identify the patterns that may be holding you back and create new pathways forward that support healing, growth, and lasting change.
With ten years of experience in private practice, I've supported clients through relationship struggles, family conflict, infidelity, fertility struggles, anxiety, grief, chronic illness, trauma, and significant life transitions. My role is to walk alongside you with warmth and curiosity, honoring your unique story while also challenging you when necessary. I offer tools, promote insight, and strengthen emotional awareness to help you build resilience, deepen connection, and create a more fulfilling life.
My Therapeutic Approach
I use an integrative approach, drawing from evidence-based methods tailored to your unique needs and goals. Depending on what you're facing, I may incorporate cognitive behavioral strategies, trauma-informed care, attachment-based work, emotion-focused techniques, mindfulness, narrative therapy, and family systems theory.
Your story is uniquely yours. I take the time to understand your values, lived experiences, and hopes for the future so we can identify the approaches that feel most helpful to you. My goal is to support your insight, build practical tools, and help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

What I Can Help With
Relationships and Connection
I work with individuals and couples navigating communication challenges, dating anxiety, intimacy struggles, infidelity recovery, divorce, premarital concerns, and family conflict. Whether you're trying to understand why the same arguments keep happening or hoping to rebuild trust after a betrayal, I can help you identify patterns and strengthen connections.
Life Transitions
Major life changes like becoming a parent, ending a relationship, relocating, career shifts, illness, caregiving responsibilities, retirement, or an empty nest can shake your sense of identity and stability. Therapy offers support and clarity as you process what's changing and figure out how to move forward.
Emotional and Mental Well-Being
I provide compassionate support for anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, chronic illness, and caregiver burnout. Together, we'll explore what's beneath the surface, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies that bring relief and help you feel more grounded.
Personal Growth and Resilience
Therapy can help you build self-esteem, set healthier boundaries, manage difficult emotions, understand and shift generational patterns, improve your relationship with yourself, and develop the self-awareness needed for a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Change is possible, and together we can create a path forward that reflects your values, strengthens your relationships, and supports your well-being.
